So this last weekend, I spent my late evenings, when I should have been sleeping, watching "Gone With The Wind." I'd never seen it before- a sin, I know. All my life I've heard that it is a classic, a movie that everyone must see. Well... I didn't like it. I'm sure there are many protesters out there who'd argue that that's wrong. I'm sorry, I just didn't like it. So, when you are older, I will not tell you it is a classic and that you should watch it. If you'd like to, go ahead, I won't stop you. I just won't rent it and make you sit down with me on a Friday evening (when you'd rather be out with your friends) and watch it. Here are the reasons why I didn't like it:
a) Scarlet is the most selfish, conceited and unkind character I've ever seen.
b) Over and over again Scarlet hurts others to get what she wants.
c) The relationship between Scarlet and Rett is unhealthy, unhappy and sad to observe.
HOWEVER,
I did love Melanie. I absolutely loved that she always gave people the benefit of the doubt. She always extended her arm to lift and love. She took criticism without getting defensive. She loved life and all the ups and downs of it. So my dearest Norah, if some Friday night you decide you want to sit down with me and watch "Gone With The Wind" I will do it for you. I just won't be the initiator.

agreed. It is so hard to watch the "heroine" be a complete jerk the whole time. Do you like Jane Austen movies? well, you should watch the Barchester Chronicles, if you do. They are not Jane Austen, but are really sweet and fun to watch, and the hero is so Christlike, I learn from him every time I watch it.
Ditto...not to the watching "Gone with the wind" (I also dislike those old movies...booooring), but to making Jane watch something with me on a Friday night when she'd rather be elsewhere!
Here here. I didn't like it either. But I LOVE you and your beautiful blog. I always leave lifted sweet sister. xoxoxo
I agree. Scarlett is so SCREWED UP! You actually remind me of Melanie.
